Lullaby

I was a daydream of the darkness. The lilting sirens sang lullabies to me at the riverside. Like the sibilant snakes of Paradise, they whispered to me: do not fear desire. In the gallows valley of summer stars, in the extravagance of their blinding light, I surrendered to their beseeching cries. And the darkness sang lullabies of Lethe. I survived vivisection by the light, falling for the quicksilver in your eyes. The lilting sirens sang lullabies to me at the riverside, and I surrendered to desire. The darkness—I was its daydream. And the deeps beckoned, and the nightmares began to scream as they walked towards me in the riverside of evening.
