The Burning
Dayspring, I vanished into language to survive obliteration. Trapped in a life I cannot bear, a blade at my back — the gash! the gash! Suspended in the stillness of desire’s victory. The divine falls to silence. Devouring morning, I was immolated by burning sunrise. The blindness! of desire! Wandering in this winding labyrinth. The arrow of Eros across the decayed Earth. The art of breakdown and collapse: I get what I want but it’s a returning trap and once again desire has its fangs in my back. This labyrinth and its winding. For a moment of ecstasy, the wild divine exhilarated me. Summer dusk bright with a disclosure of light like the burning fields of Paradise. Starlight batters the city sidewalks. For a moment of ecstasy, the wild divine resided in me, and I witnessed your sublime majesty. You forgot me in the moon countries. And the darkness dreamed before devouring morning. Nail me to desire. Like Madonna at the stake, I will outlive my burning.
