The Wager
Desire my ruin my wager my rage my rapture
I am enmeshed but it is captivity I continue to chase after
Desire the maid of night in defiance to these starving millennia I rise like trespassing fire
I witnessed teeming Earth in the vestiges of evening’s last light
Flooded coasts run scarlet sanguis with the blood of fragile creatures
I went on night drives along winter roads surviving a purgatory of low clouds and moonlight
Warmth beneath the glassine flames of Ararat fires, hope is an ephemeral traveler
Crusaders in a primordial garden of shadows, I witnessed the death of sacred stags
The oracle waits in the snakeroot forests with prophecies for my failed escapes
Desire your promised riches gave birth to districts of starving angered spirits
I ran through a valley of radiant stars and the barbed dark began to walk
The arresting web of desire! I witnessed springtails ensnared in crystal stalks of sundew
Sic transit gloria mundi, I had a dream of becoming but that ecstasy was forbidden to me
Desire my guardian cherub you bear burn wounds from flaming Eden in the east
I am entangled in the clutching nets of night with the moon’s trapped rays of opaline
Desire the evening berserker as lethal as deathcap growing in the wilderness gallows
The brevity of dreams! Wounded Orpheus waits at the threshold of desire
Crusaders in the flaming seas of kerosene, the oracle demands a sacrificed daughter
Child of sanguis, you died for desire’s fair winds, to satiate the many appetites of the dark
Endless apokálypsis, the winged Earth went to remnants long before the Ark sailed to haven
Heir of fire Desire I have arrived at your silent ruins—vast abrasions across the carcass of Earth
The wager of fate! Flooded coasts run scarlet sanguis with the blood of fragile creatures
This existence is an afterlife my betrayer you arrived at the hearth of Ararat without me
Tyrannos eros, the wandering pilgrims continue to dream
I—I—I realize Desire my ruin my wager my reason my rage my rapture
